Artists are emotionally attached to their artworks and for Jef, it matters much who acquires them. He is happy to let go of his work whenever he knows the collector appreciates the value of his artworks and would enjoy displaying and viewing their collection in their homes for a very long time.
Jef has always maintained a high level of standard in terms of the quality of his work and especially standard in pricing. It is true that the demand for Jef’s works have rapidly increased for the past few years and because it is difficult to get access to Jef’s limited pieces (perhaps because he is more focused on the quality rather than the quantity of his work), some collectors unfortunately resort to buying even at prices way above the standard price. It is also not a good feeling for the artist to know he/or his work is being used for profit, for one to gain anyone’s favor or for one’s personal gain. So we have always encouraged his collectors to buy directly or to acquire Jef’s works only thru authorized representatives/art institutions like Galleries (Galerie Francesca and Art Lounge Manila), Art Fairs or Auction houses. This way, the collector is protected from ridiculously high percentage commissions from unauthorized agents and in turn protect Jef’s reputation and career in the long run. With the continued support of his collectors, he is able to continue his passion in making art and we also have a responsibility to protect them thru awareness.
